Savanah Wright is a music teacher at Windham Primary School, where she enjoys teaching Kindergarten through 3rd grade. She has been teaching for 6 years, during which she has gained valuable experiences in schools along the East Coast. She taught in South Carolina until she moved to Cobb County School District in Georgia, which has been named among the best communities for music education in the nation by the NAMM Foundation for the last 20 years. During her time there, she led and supported her team of music educators as they navigated through teaching music in hybrid and virtual settings during the pandemic.
Savanah served as a leader in the district's music education community during the pandemic, mentoring first year music educators, creating content for the district's online Teaching and Learning System, and presenting in professional learning opportunities. Savanah is passionate about creating cross-curricular connections in elementary school, because the intersection of the arts with general education make powerful learning opportunities for students.
Savanah earned her Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from Bob Jones University in Greenville, South Carolina, with her instruments being piano and clarinet. She performed and toured with the university's concert choir, woodwind choir, concert band, and symphony orchestra during her time there. She can play over 10 instruments, which her students love, as she brings instruments into class as often as she can squeeze them in!
Though Savanah has taught in various states, her home has always been Maine. She grew up in Saco, where she spent much of her childhood on the beach. After a few years living far from family and her beloved home state, she and her husband moved back to where their hearts had been longing to be ever since they left!
When she isn't teaching, she can be found spending time with her husband, her son, and her two dogs. They love spending days exploring Maine, as there are always new places to discover!
